Why Email Is Still Your MVP (Even If Everyone’s on Your Social)

Ever heard this one…

“All the people who’d be on our email list already follow us on social, so what’s the point?”

I get it. If your followers are double-tapping and commenting, it’s tempting to think your social game is all you need to nurture your community.

But here’s the thing: social media and email are not playing the same game. Email’s your ace in the hole for deeper connections, higher conversions, and keeping your audience coming back for more. Here's why...
Why Social Is Not the End-All, Be-All

Let’s be real—social media is noisy. Between breaking news, cat videos, and everyone’s curated highlight reel, it’s a miracle your posts even get noticed. Even when your followers do see your content, their attention is spread thinner than avocado on a piece of overpriced toast.

But when someone gives you their email? That’s a whole different ballgame.

Showing up in someone’s inbox is like getting invited into their living room. It’s personal. You’re no longer competing with random dance trends and sponsored ads. Your audience is focused, and it’s just you and them. If social is a crowded house party, email is a coffee date—intimate, intentional, and all about real conversations.

Why You Need Email to Nurture Your Audience

Let’s break it down:

  1. Social Media Algorithms Play Games. Email Doesn’t. Social platforms are unpredictable at best and fickle at worst. One day your post is front and center; the next day, crickets. Email, on the other hand? You’re in control. No algorithm is deciding if your content is worthy of being seen. (Though your subject lines may!)
  2. Depth > Hype. Getting likes and comments is great, but are you building real relationships? Emails let you slow down, tell your story, and actually connect with your audience. You can share what really goes into building your business, your behind-the-scenes struggles, and those small moments that make your brand human. That’s the stuff that builds loyalty—not just followers.
  3. You Own Your List. Your Followers? Not So Much. We’ve all seen it: platforms change the rules, your reach tanks, and you’re left scrambling. Or sometimes social media platforms totally shut down! But with your email list? It’s yours. It’s direct access to your people—no middleman, no shadowbans, no surprises.

What Nurturing Actually Means

Nurturing doesn’t mean blasting out boring newsletters or desperate-sounding sales emails every week. (Let’s not.) Instead, it’s about showing up with valuable, real content:

  • Share stories you don’t post on your socials—something that feels exclusive.
  • Give them a behind-the-scenes look at your process, struggles, or those little quirks that make you you.
  • Segment your audience and tailor your message so your emails feel personal. Like you’re talking just to them.

And most importantly, remember: when people want to open your emails, that’s when you know you’re doing it right.

Nurture Now, Benefit Later

Yes, even if your followers are already vibing with you on Instagram or LinkedIn, email still matters. Why? Because you can’t rely on the algorithm lottery to keep your business afloat.

So the next time you think to yourself “But they’re already following us on social,” just smile, nod, and hit send on that email anyway. 😉 Your future self will thank you for it.
