5 Ways I Harness AI as a Copywriter for Creative Clarity

You may be surprised to hear how regularly I use AI–more specifically ChatGPT and other similar tools. With my neuro-spicy brain, it would be silly not to! AI helps me amplify my creativity and make my writing process smoother. Emphasis on smoother. Efficiency is certainly the #1 reason I use AI tools.

But let me be clear, I use AI as a tool NOT as a replacement for my actual writing, because AI even as it gets smarter, still isn’t human. And to be truly effective and impactful with your words, you need to be human.

Still, I thought I’d share how I use AI in case it helps you with your writing process, too.
1. The Research Buddy I Never Knew I Needed

First up: research! We all know that gathering insights can be time-consuming. Oftentimes asking Google can lead you down a rabbit hole of useless information. And I don't know about you but I spend time then trying to refine and rephrase my search, sometimes still not getting the relevant information I need.

This is where ChatGPT has been a huge time saver, helping me quickly sift through mountains of information, pulling together key points that resonate with my audience. Need stats for a newsletter? Want to back up a bold claim in a presentation? AI helps me dive into the data and organize it into digestible nuggets. It’s like having my own research assistant.

Tip: it’s important to double-check the info AI provides. But even with this extra step, it still makes the process much more efficient.

2. Structuring with Ease

Ever spent hours trying to figure out how to structure a presentation deck or a newsletter? I have! But with AI, I can brainstorm and outline my ideas in a flash. Whether it’s a workshop agenda or a program overview, AI helps me organize my thoughts logically so I can present them clearly. It’s like having a roadmap for my creativity—super handy!

Tip: remember to also trust your own expertise and gut instincts on whether something makes sense. For example, for my recent Get Your Messaging Straight Challenge, I structured the days in a particular order, based on my own usual process with clients.

But as I was finalizing the program, I decided to ask AI if maybe there was a better, more intuitive structure. Based on AI’s feedback, I made some slight changes. Funny enough, in the midst of the program, I realized my original structure actually would’ve been better. So, I should’ve trusted my own expertise, experience, and gut instincts!

3. Idea Bouncing and Brainstorming Partner

When you’re a solopreneur or work from home (or both), sometimes you just need someone (or something) to bounce ideas off of, right? AI is my go-to brainstorming partner. When I hit a creative wall, I throw my ideas into the mix and see what comes back. It’s amazing how a little AI-generated inspiration can lead to fresh angles or unexpected concepts. It feels like having a collaborative buddy who’s always ready to play, (And it’s not that AI always has the best ideas, but AI’s bad ideas help me get to the good ideas, too.)

Tip: While AI tends to perform better the more info and specificity you can provide it, sometimes it helps to purposefully start off with a broad question or command just to see what it comes up with. This way, you may even see if there’s an angle or something you hadn’t thought of.

4. Refining My Copy with the right Brand Voice

Now, let’s talk about finding that perfect brand voice. This is NOT AI’s strong suit, BUT…with enough context and specificity, it can help you get it right or get close. That’s because it can help tweak language choices, ensuring the message resonates with the intended audience. Plus, you can test different phrases and see how small changes can shift the overall vibe. This can take some ping pong-ing, but I even use it to get my own brand voice right. And that’s because sometimes just to get going on something…I will just write–like do a brain dump or vomit draft. Then I might turn to AI to efficiently help me adjust my rough draft. This often still requires further tweaking from me, but it helps me make this process much swifter.

Tip: To help get the tone and voice right, you can copy and paste your brand voice guide into AI and tell it to “use this brand voice.” If you don’t have a Brand Voice Guide, or AI still doesn’t get it quite right, share a link to your website (if you feel it accurately reflects your brand voice), or copy from your socials and other places that accurately reflect your brand voice.

5. Condensing and Expanding with Confidence

Whether I need to condense a lengthy email or expand on an idea for a workshop, AI is there to help. It’s great for taking dense paragraphs and transforming them into concise, impactful statements—or vice versa! If I’m struggling to articulate a thought, I can rely on AI to give me a nudge or suggest different ways to express what I mean. It’s like having a helpful friend ready to assist whenever I get stuck.

Embracing the Power of AI as a Tool for Efficiency
So there you have it! AI isn’t here to replace the creative magic we bring to the table; it’s here to enhance it. By using AI as a tool for research, structuring, brainstorming, refining, and expanding my copy, I can focus on what I love most: connecting with my audience through powerful storytelling.

I’m excited to keep exploring how AI can further elevate my work. And my ADHD brain is grateful for the positive things AI can do.

How do you leverage technology in your creative process? Share your thoughts—I’d love to hear how you’re navigating this evolving landscape! 💬

Until next time, keep creating magic! ✨
