Why Your Social Media Can't Replace Your Website

When you’re starting out, some folks will tell you not to worry about a website yet. “Just use LinkedIn. Just use Instagram.” And if it’s set up well, that can be good enough.

But if you’ve already started establishing yourself — if people are finding you, referring you, and considering hiring you — you don’t want your credibility living inside an app you don’t own.

Social media is the coffee shop date. Your website is where you invite people into your world.

Because LinkedIn, IG, and TikTok are designed for discovery. They’re built for scroll-stopping moments, quick connection, and “wait, I like ‘em” energy.

But your website?

Your website is where people go when they’re thinking:
“Okay… are they the real deal?”
“Do I trust them?”
“Can I see myself working with them?”
And if your website isn’t doing its job, here’s what happens:
  • People watch your content, feel inspired… and then forget to take the next step.
  • People hear about you from a friend, go looking… and can’t quickly understand what you do or how to work with you.
  • People land on your site and it feels like a pretty Pinterest board with no foundation. Cute, but confusing.
  • Or worse, people land on your site and feel underwhelmed.
  • People want to say yes… but there’s no clear story, no clear path, and no clear next move.
Your website is not your digital résumé
It’s your
guided experience. It’s the place where the right person can:

  • Understand what you do in 10 seconds
  • Feel your credibility without you over-explaining
  • See themself in the story you’re telling
  • Know exactly what to do next (without awkward DM gymnastics)
Social media is the teaser. Your website is the movie.
Social media is highlights → Your website is the throughline.

Social media is where they meet you → Your website is where they learn to trust you.
And no matter how strong your content is, it can’t replace what your website is meant to do: Turn curiosity into commitment.
Three quick “home base” questions to ask your website
  1. Is it immediately clear who I help and what I help them do?
  2. Does my story feel cohesive across pages, or like a bunch of disconnected tabs?
  3. Is the next step obvious… or am I hoping people will “just reach out”?
If you’re cringing a little, congrats–you’re normal! And you’re exactly who this is for.
Because you don’t need more posts. You need a stronger home base that makes your audience want to play and stay.
Stay curious,
🎈 Justine

P.S. If you’ve been avoiding sending people to your site because it doesn’t feel like you yet — and it’s basically a pretty Pinterest board with no bones for your home, let’s fix that.
